At the end of 2001, the No. 2 Chemistry Building was formally finished and used. Its total building area is over 7000 m2. This greatly expends the area of classmates and labs, the whole school will take on a new look in near future.
The Old Chemistry Building is one of the best buildings which have longest history in New Campus of Shandong University. Generations of students finished their school work and went to take part in the culture and economy construction for our motherland. Having tender feeling to our Alma Mate, many old schoolfellows often missed the Old Chemistry Building in there dreams. But after years of ablution, the Old Chemistry Building is getting older and older. So the School made a decision that the Old Chemistry Building would be refitted at full scale. After the refitting, the Old Chemistry Building will become the center of experiment. The Old Chemistry Building is abounded to take on a new look and recover her youth.

In the aspect of undergraduate experimental teaching, the School established the Center of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Experimental Teaching, including the labpratories of basic chemistry, middle instruments, comprehensive chemistry and chemical engineering principles, initially established a complete experimental teaching system from basics to comprehensives and to creation. The School made the short-term and middle-and-long-term goals of the Center construction, and improved the regulations and rules of the Center, and at the same time, positively raised money to accelerate the Center construction. During the four years until the end of 2000, with the construction funds of 425 million RMB successively got from the functional departments of the Education Ministry and the University, the Center rebuilt the experimental environment, increased and renewed a lots of experimental teaching facilities, so as to have greatly improved the undergraduate experimental teaching condition of the School. In the following three years, since the Center will obtain the financial aid of several million RMB from the University every year, the School will thoroughly upgrade the Center according to the national first-class standard, endeavoring to reach the standard of the undergraduate excellence evaluation as early as possible, and try to make the Center to take the lead in SDU of entering the list of the of National Experimental Teaching Model Centers in 3 to 5 years.

The School also strengthened the construction of the School Library and the books and data. At present, with a collection of over 60,000 Chinese and English books and over 300 kinds of journals, the School Library has been preliminarily built as a chemistry and chemical engineering specialized library with the most broad collection range and the most systematic and complete data in SDU.
