The School has a strong capability of basic research and has got many outstanding achievements. The School published nearly 100 SCI papers every year, which accounted for 40%-50% of the total amounts of the SCI papers published by SDU, thus ranked the top one in the absolute lead in the 29 colleges and teaching divisions in SDU. This made an outstanding contribution to SDU to keep itself among the national top ten in the term of the total amounts of SCI papers, and the School was praised by the University at the 2000's SDU Research Achievement Award Committee hold in July 2001.
The School Faculty made an outstanding contribution to the progress of science and technology and the economic development of the state, once won a number of awards of national, provincial and ministerial class, including National Natural Science Awards, National Science Committee Awards, National Science and Technology Advances Awards, National Invention Awards and National Science and Technology Star&Fire Awards.

While conducting longitudinal research, the School carries out broad exchange and cooperation with the state-possessed enterprises of large and middle scale. In the recent 5 years, lots of horizontal cooperation agreements were signed, the total amount of which were nearly 20 million RMB. The School has explored over 100 practical achievements of which 43 items were transferred, and the total of the technological transference and service amounted to 12.7 million RMB, which made the research achievements to directly serve the national economic construction.

The School faculty members have successively edited and published several tens of textbooks for higher institutions and academic specialized works, such as Concise Textbook of Physical Chemistry, Physical Chemistry Lab, Basic Instrumental Analysis, Basic Chemistry Lab, Colloid Chemistry, Applied Colloid Chemistry, Colloid Chemistry Lab, Solution Extraction Chemistry and Inorganic Silicon Chemistry.
